DAILY MORNING CHAI REPORT

The S&P 500 futures trade 37 points, or 1.0%, above fair value to begin the week, aided by a positive vaccine update from Moderna (MRNA 102.70, +13.31, +15.2%). The tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 futures trade 0.2% below fair value despite an initial knee-jerk spike.

Specifically, Moderna said early data indicated its COVID-19 vaccine was 94.5% effective after the second dose and has a longer shelf life at refrigerated temperatures than the vaccine from Pfizer (PFE 38.00, -0.62, -1.6%) and BioNTech (BNTX 96.00, -10.00, -9.4%). MRNA shares are up 15%.

Value, cyclical, and small-cap stocks have also taken the news in stride after leading the S&P 500 and Russell 2000 to record closes last Friday, while many of the stay-at-home stocks have slipped lower. In addition, longer-dated Treasury yields have edged higher on the hope that a vaccine will improve economic growth prospects in 2021.

The 2-yr yield is up one basis point to 0.18%, and the 10-yr yield is up three basis points to 0.92%. The U.S. Dollar Index is little changed at 92.68. WTI crude futures are up 3.8%, or $1.51, to $41.64/bbl.

Today's economic data will be limited to the Empire State Manufacturing Survey for November (Briefing.com consensus 14.0) at 8:30 a.m. ET.
